Those Damn Markets!

Part of our tour today was to the Dam Markets.  It was massive and sold everything from dried seafood to hats and wallets.

I certainly have to hand it to the people who work in the dried seafood section...... the smell was overwhelming and theres only so long you can breath through your mouth before your nose becomes necessary.

There is a whole section of lovely flowers...

And lots of lovely fruits.

At the back here we have some dried things in cars, then just in front of that is your dried sea cucumbers, then there are some other dried things.....

Whitebait.

Little baby crabs - dried.

This lady was setting a rat trap.

I understand that it is a different way of life and that culturally we are different.  I am accepting of most things, but flies on food stuffs are simply a no no - whatever country you're in.

A little bit like Hanoi, there was a whole section for shoes...

And hats....

I'm not sure what these are, but the are wrapped beautifully....

Durian fruit.  They smell so much that hotels won't let them inside the building.

Coconuts - A woman stood behind this table and cut the husks off these coconuts with a machete in about 5 seconds flat.  she was amazing to watch.  I don't know how she had all her fingers!

I'm not sure this is the safest way to transport eggs.....

These are the betel nuts that the Vietnamese used to use to blacken their teeth.

Paper products that people buy as offerings when people die.  They are made in the shape of worldly possessions like clothes, shoes and houses.
