Mud Slingin'

When we decided to come to Nha Trang, we read up on all the things there were to do there.  The first on the list was to visit the hot spring mud baths.  Apparently the therapeutic properties of the mud are renowned and plentiful.

It's a very tropical and tranquil setting.....

There are baths like this one of differing sizes dotted around the area and mud is pumped into them - presumably from the hot springs, however Jenny suggested that the mud more than likely comes from the building site we passed on the way in.

Ive not spent a lot of time in mud, but it actually felt fabulous.  A little slippery, but you could almost feel it working wonders on your skin.

We soaked for about 20 minutes.  It was hard to stay in any longer, as it was like you were in a hot bath...... a dirty hot bath.... with 3 other people!

Whose feet were touching..... (as pretty as they are!)

Like the Dead Sea, where you can float because of the high quantities of salt in the water, the mud baths allowed you to experiences weightlessness.... until, as Chris will demonstrate below, your body slowly tips to the side, slipping around on the bottom and then sinking, scrambling to hold on to the slippery side for dear life.

It was quite a funny experience and I'd recommend it to anyone thinking of coming up here.

This is who Chris reminded me of as she floated on the top of the mud bath.....

Afterwards you sit in the sun and let the mud cake on dry to really reap the benefits, then you wash it off in the outdoor, communal showers.  Then you're free to hit the pools.

I showered first and had a row of about 6 showers to myself.  Then Jen, Chris and Marie all showered.  The mud is quite hard to get off your skin and even harder to get off your bathers!  They had been there for about 5 minutes, and then a group of Vietnamese people bombarded the showers.  There is no such thing as waiting for a turn, they just got in there with them, under the same shower head!  Jenny said one minute she was standing there with her eyes closed, then next she opened them and was face to face with a strange man.  It was one of the funniest things I've seen.

The pools and waterfalls were all really warm and as it was a hot day, they were   almost unbearable to be in, which is a real shame!

Whilst we sat in the shade trying desperately to stay our of the sun, this young lass was quite happy to get her skin out there.  It looks like she tried to throw on a bikini this morning, but missed....

When she started parading around the pool, we left.
