Markets, Mullets and Mucus

Nha Trang, we found out as we exited the airport, is just like Geraldton..... W.I.N.D.Y!

And the terrain is surprisingly just like Leeman (a little fishing town between Geraldton and Perth) dry and shrubby.

The 45 minute journey in from the airport was travelled over roads that needed much attention from the Department of Main Roads and we passed a lot of unfinished buildings that were battling to stay upright against the blowing sand dunes (just like Lancelin).  Otherwise, it was a fairly uneventful ride.

We got to the hotel, dumped the bags and hit the streets, passing the 3pm school pick up.... all on motorbikes.

Someone has got themselves a brand new scooter in the mail....

We haven't seen many animals on this trip really except for a few dogs in Hanoi.  This kitten was way cuter than in this photo.  I must have only been about a week old - so tiny!

A little bit of street art?

Who is up for a haircut?  You just need to see the lady on the right to make an appointment.

Or perhaps a shave?

There seems to be an obsession with alligators/crocodiles here.  I hate to say it, but I think these might be real heads that have been made into keyrings.  Probably not the career they thought they would have back in the swamp!

The lady on the right was fingering all the food at her Phò station.  Probably just making sure they were there and ready for her first customer.

Nha Trang used to be the Russian holiday destination of choice and 5 years ago, there were 8 planes per day flying in directly from Russia.  Now there is only 1 per day, if they're lucky.  90% of the signs are in Russian as are the menus.  Those poor people who spent all that time learning Russian..... turned out to be a bit of a waste of time!

100% Snail Mucus.... Um........ ?

This was the Lantern restaurant where we had a meal.

And tonight, we're giving them a score of 7 (ala My Kitchen Rules)

We walked for miles and on the way home visited the night markets.

Is this not the best ginger mullet you have ever seen?

And a bit of street food on the way home......

All in all - a lovely first day in Nha Trang
