Cham Towers

The Cham are ethnic Chinese and Vietnamese Buddhists and this one of their oldest is temples.  It dates back to 817AD.

It is called The Po Nagar Cham Tower.

Look at me pretty Jenny.

Originally the complex had 7 or 8 towers, but the roof fell in on this temple and others had been damaged over time so now there are only 4 towers left.

The temples are still used today.  They are tiny inside and full of statues and daily offerings.

These were the original steps to get up to the main temple.  The are on about an 80 degree angle and the steps are only tiny - made for tiny Vietnamese feet.

After the monks had finished praying, they would crawl backwards down the stairs, because they would never turn their back to the temple...... And it was probably much easier to get down those stairs!
